The experts
Magda Pretorius
When it comes to experience, Magda comes out tops. She started her beauty education at Tygerberg Technical College, followed by an apprenticeship at Linda of London at the Mount Nelson Hotel as well as advanced colour courses with L’Oréal. She then took on the professional beauty industry with passion and purpose, working with the likes of glam guru Hannon Bothma as well as Terry Scott, one of South Africa’s top hair stylists. Magda eventually decided it was time to explore the international beauty scene and went to work and train in London. But that still wasn’t challenging enough for this dynamo: For nine years, Magda managed 25 spas with an average of 15 staff members on various cruise liners. She also set up the Greenhouse Spa on the brand new Holland America Vista class ships.
To Magda, her job is about much more than creating beauty. “It’s not only satisfactory to see the change in how a person looks after a good cut, but also to see the joy when they realise it’s going to make a difference in their lifestyle.” Her mission is to educate South African men on how to improve their look, without much effort. She also propagates the philosophy that for both men and women, getting the right look can be simple and quick – if you just know how. More than enough reason to visit Radiance…
Krystle Gerber
Krystle completed a three-year course at the International Academy of Health and Skincare in Cape Town. She also acquired her Masters and International Diploma in Beauty Therapy and Skincare.
She then decided to spread her wings and furthered her studies in London, specialising in body and skin treatments. She focused on colon hydrotherapy with detoxication therapist Galina Imrie. After four years, she returned to South Africa, operating her consultation room at Radiance.
Ronelle Assure
After finishing her studies, Ronelle started her apprenticeship at D&D (the name of Radiance before Magda took over). She is passionate about the wide spectrum of working in the beauty industry. “You are not just a hair stylist, you’re a designer, an advisor, a psychologist and a friend, all wrapped up in one career.”
Ronelle’s specialties are colouring and upstyles, which she describes as one of the more creative sides of hairdressing.
